A PIP police officer tried to stop 21-year-old Mike Andrew Urgiles after he drove on the wrong side of a closed gate on Tuesday, Officer-In-Charge Lt. Jock Watkins, Jr. said.

Urgiles “eluded the officer and fled back into the park,” Watkins said.

Officers found his car in the Englewood Boat Basin parking lot a short time later, but Urgiles refused their orders to get out, the lieutenant said.

Unable to see clearly inside the vehicle, and unsure what he might be doing, PIP police called the Bergen County Regional SWAT team.

The tactical squad took Urgiles into custody without injury to him or any officers, Watkins said.

Among the charges filed by PIP police: resisting arrest, obstruction and possession of pot and drug paraphernalia.

Urgiles remained held Wednesday in the Bergen County Jail pending further court action.

Fourteen months ago, authorities charged Urgiles with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old, beginning when the juvenile was 15 .

A tip that he’d had “inappropriate sexual contact” with the juvenile prompted an investigation that led to the arrest, authorities said at the time.
